In our never ending search for ways to make kids with cancer smile, please read about our latest endeavor:
Camp Rainbow is Mississippi's summer camp for children (ages 6-17) who have ever received a diagnosis of cancer. The camp is free of charge to all participants. Boys and girls experience the traditional fun of summer camp at an ACA accredited facility, ensuring the highest standard of safety.
Camp Rainbow is designed to meet the special needs of children affected by cancer including those who are undergoing treatment. Volunteer counselors are chosen to lead campers in an array of summertime activities including swimming, arts and crafts, field day and a dance.
Camp Rainbow provides the opportunity for children to cope with their illnesses while forming new friendships among their peers. Families can have peace of mind knowing that their children are in capable hands with the staff at Camp Rainbow. The medical needs of campers are provided for by pediatric oncology physicians and nurses on a 24-hour a day basis.
Since 1983, Camp Rainbow has provided a memorable camping experience for hundreds of children. Camp Rainbow has seen tremendous growth since its beginning, but the phliosophy and goals have remained the same.
.To provide a summer camp experience for children with cancer.
.To encourage self-confidence, self expression and independance.
.To provide the perfect setting for building new friendships and strengthening familiar ties.
.To increase community awareness about the needs of children with cancer.
Camp Rainbow was so well received in it's beginning, that is became an annual project for the doctors and nurses at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Camp Rainbow has marked 30 years of camping at Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, MS. It is our hope and desire that Camp Rainbow will continue to grow and meet the needs of Mississippi's children with cancer.
Camp Rainbow, which is free of charge to all participants, is fully funded through contributions. They need our help to be able to continue.
All proceeds from SHCCF fundraisers will go towards a $40,000 goal to make this year's camp possible. Won't you help us?
